Friday, Oct. 2, 2-2:50 p.m., Knight Campus, Room 6580
This workshop's participants will look at essays, thesis statements, topic sentences, introductions, conclusions, and body paragraphs. Handouts and practice exercises will include examples of good and bad thesis statements.
If you do not have an opinion on the topic, it is not possible to write a thesis statement. The thesis statement must give an opinion--it tells the reader exactly what you think. On the next page we will take a look at some examples of good and bad thesis statements.
Examples of good and bad thesis statements with explanations.
Your school may provide examples of good and bad thesis statements. Many students consider their school content first before doing further research for examples. Some instructors may provide written examples when the provide guidelines and instructions. Others may provide a website link that details advice and tips on how to write a thesis statement. Some provide thorough detailed information that offers comparisons of good and bad statement writing. Few provide limited details that act as an example but lead students to look for more examples.
